Writing A Great Cookbook

Patti Schneckenberger

Writing A Great Cookbook Lets face it everyone, We Love Food! With that passion comes great recipes from around the world. Food is truly a universal language. So of course where there is great food there is someone writing a great cookbook. We all have a favorite recipe that someone in our family introduced us too, so why not put it all together and share it.

You may believe that you need to be a great writer, or a top chef, or a Professional, to write a cookbook? The truth is if you have experience enjoying the great meals your Mom, Dad, Sister, Brothers, Uncles, Aunts, Friends have shared, you have a story and some great recipes.

The story of the gathering is what makes the cookbook set the tone for the recipes. For example, My Mom made the best potato salad you ever tasted. Anyone that had the privilege of sampling her specialty, always wanted to know how she came up with that particular blend. So now we have a story and a great recipe. You see how that works?

I know you are now probably wondering how you can get enough recipes to fill up a book? This is where you have to be a little creative, but you will soon find that people are willing to share their stories and recipes with great joy. All you have to do is put out a email to family and friends and tell them you would like them to help you with this project. I think you will be amazed at how many great ideas you come up with, just within your own family and friend circle.

Remember the theme of your cookbook is what really sells. For example, once you gather all the recipes and stories you need to fill your book, a strong title and presence for the cover is key. With digital cameras and all the new technology we have now days, it is easy to gather family and friends together and show how over the generations, food keeps us all connected. Your title could be something like, Generations of Love.

There are numerous resources on the internet that explain how and where to market and promote your new labor of love. But once you get it all together and your project is complete, you will discover that this experience has opened your mind, spirit, and of course your sense of purpose. Now you have something you created with others that will be enjoyed and passed on for years to come.
