Debt Never Sleeps: How to Ease the Pain
Carol Stott
All around us we hear about debt, the economy and one organization or group after another struggling to have the funds they need to continue their purposes and programs!
Our government is extending the budget to feed the economy, to spark more spending and growth. Could that be similar to living on credit cards? What are your thoughts? Have you ever "had" to live on credit cards because of life happenings that knocked you off track? Many people have. Debt is something we think a great deal about at this time of year because many of us fund our joy and good cheer during the Christmas season with the hope of paying for it later.
Now that we are coming onto the month of love and hearts, hopefully all of you can get excited about expressing special love to your special someone. Many families these days are struggling with stress over the future, blinded from seeing the positives of families and uniting together in solid, joyful family units strengthened by the peace and exhilaration of goals set and stepping out in striving for them. In such a family, the finances are clear, balanced and focused.
Does life seem forever met by financial crisis, by arguing or the silent treatment perhaps when you just can't sit down and discuss the budget? Has that word become so unthinkably harsh and unpleasant? Why do you think that is so?
It seems we are bombarded daily by so many calls for our money, here and there. Some good, some not so good. Most of the time we just ahve to choose from so many good things. The operative words are "so many".
We have all been taught we should have a budget. But who does it? Do we feel it is like having to face our inner self exposed for all to see? Does it make us look in the mirror of our present and futre and we don't like what we see? Or is it because we have not really come to know who we are and know that what we value has real worth? I think it is.
I just want every woman to know how special you are; how you are each a special daughter of your Heavenly Father who loves you so very much. Now with that said, take a look at what you love to do and schedule some time to do it. Just little things each day, If you like to be outdoors at least step outside and walk around the house enjoying every moment thoroughly!,
If something you love doing costs a great deal of money, think about what you feel like when you are doing that special thing, and think of something that could give you the same feeling but cost little or no money. How could you create that same feeling with something else? Perhaps it is going out to dinner at a fancy restaurant. Is it the getting ready, the anticipation, or is it the food, or is it the company you are with and the chance to talk together? Really think about the feelings, the sites and smells that you enjoy and recreate them in something each day. After a while it becomes just as much fun creating and examining what really brings you joy as any other thing you love doing.
One night my husband and I pumped up the queen size mattress, gathered some great movies and some special little treats (ice cream is my husband's favorite) and cuddled together in the living room, just to do somehting different that would give us the same feeling as checking into a five star hotel.
Now really think about what you would do if you had your mortgage paid off. Would you go on a great vacation, spend more time with your family, become a single income family, develop your talents, send your children to college? Take the time to really think what you would do.
There are innovative ways to achieve that very goal of financial flexibility too. Contact me and we can visit together and share ideas.
