De-Cluttering Your Mind Will Dramatically Increase Your Chances of Success.

Lynette Chartier

Have you ever rolled up your sleeves and gotten down to work in an effort to de-clutter and spring-clean your home? If so, have you ever given the same consideration to your body and mind?

You absolutely owe it to yourself to do an internal cleaning and de-cluttering of your thoughts, beliefs, and actions on a regular basis. It is crucial to moving forward in your life and to achieving the success you seek.

People who maximize their potential and achieve success, regularly check in with themselves to see if their thinking and their beliefs are serving them or not. They dump and release what is not working.

Just like cupboards and drawers that fill up with outdated and unused items, our minds, hearts and souls get cluttered with un-serving thoughts, beliefs and habits.

It's not unusual to forget what is hidden and safely tucked away in a corner of our home. Yet, it is very much there, and it takes up space, and energy. When we examine our inner world, here too we find hidden things that need to be thrown out. These hidden thoughts and feelings become subconscious barriers and they keep us stuck in our familiar ways. We end up getting locked in our attitudes and posture.

"There is only one cause of unhappiness: the false beliefs you have in your head, beliefs so widespread, so commonly held, that it never occurs to you to question them" Anthony De Mello

Frequently during a de-cluttering process we are amazed at what we find. We often discover comments that were told to us, yet we never questioned them. In fact these comments are just not so. Let them go!

It is always our false beliefs and wrong thoughts that cause us the greatest pain and suffering; and that keep us from being all we can be. We are our own worst enemies. The mental falsehoods create stress and dis-ease. The great news is that you can change all of that, should you choose.

In order to take a new life direction, you will need to step out of your comfort zone and take a deep look into your mind and soul. With desire and willingness you can get that internal de-cluttering of the mind underway. Doing some work now will make the rest of your life much easier.

Reality is, this is your life. Are you driving the bus and choosing the direction you are going? Or, have you given up and are letting others drive your bus and choosing the direction by their comments and actions?

Many times when wanting a particular life change, we need to ignore current appearances because these could lead us to think that there is no hope, that were not worthy, that we do not have the ability to succeed or worse yet, that our efforts will never work. Yet again, this is a falsehood.

We just need to look to nature - when the fields are planted in the spring, farmers do not tell themselves after a day, a week, or a month, this will never grow. They accept that there is a gestation period; that with continued watering and tending to, the crops will come up. Faith in the process is needed as well as subordination of our 5 senses to our inner vision.

When we are working on changing our belief system, building our self-confidence, de-stressing, de-cluttering, and bringing our mind, heart and soul back in alignment, there is also a gestation period. Faith and persistence play important roles in this process.

Here are a few simple questions, that answered honestly can get you well on your way to de-cluttering your mind:

What is currently working well in my life and what is not? How do I feel about work, my relationships, my health and so on? What do I want to see for myself in 6 months, 1 year and 5 years? What has been holding me back? Am I willing to really invest time and energy in myself?

Also, in order to clean the past out of your mind you need to release the emotional attachment to it. Let yourself keep the memory of it but not the emotional charge. The emotional charge that you attach to past events takes up a lot of your energy reserve and it depletes you of the vital power needed, to help you create your desired future.

Make a list of all the mental chatter, false beliefs, and negative thinking habits that you are willing to let go of.

Follow that up by answering a few more questions:

How willing am I to really let go of these past hurts? Of people's opinions? Of old comments?

"When you hear an opinion and believe it, you make an agreement and it becomes part of your belief system. The only thing that can break this agreement is to make a new one based on truth. Only the truth has the power to set you free." Don Miguel Ruiz

Notice how you feel and react inside as you ask the questions. What do you think you will have to do to let go of these things? How willing are you to do so? How high is your resistance to letting go and why are you resistant?

Once you get clear on the changes you would like to see for yourself, big or small then it is time to start taking action. You will need to set time aside each day to work on your inner self.ᅠ It is important to know that you are not doing this work because you are broken or not good enough. You are doing this work in order to fine tune things and start seeing more of what you want in your life.

Now before you sabotage yourself by saying I don't have time for that, ask yourself: What will it cost me /what pain will I experience if I do not make the time?

"Pay the price of success and pay it once, pay the price of failure and pay it over and over again." Unknown

By de-cluttering your mind, you have the possibility of taking your own story and making it into what you want. Belief is the key. You must believe in yourself and have a desire and willingness to make positive changes. Taking the time to de-clutter your mind on a regular basis will significantly increase your chances of success.
