Texas State University is situated in San Marcos, Texas Till recent times, Texas State University was better known as Southwest Texas State University. Texas State University was founded in 1899 as a normal school with an idea to educate teachers. It was in 2003, that the University was finally recognized officially as Texas State University. It has branch campus in Round Rock. The University now provides bachelors degrees, masters degrees, and doctoral degrees. It is recognized by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.

Texas State University has defined itself as a free, student centered, doctoral conceding institution devoted to brilliance in serving the educational desires of the varied population of Texas in the world and beyond. Texas States University has seven fundamental colleges and through the University. Texas State is always remembered to educate more teachers than any university in the state. There is the Biochemistry Department, Geography Department, and Physics Department.

The University has a number of colleges under its name namely the College of Applied Arts, the College of Education, the College of Business Administration, the College of Fine Arts and Communication, the College of Health Professions, the Graduate College, the College of Liberal Arts, and the College of Science.

There are bachelor degrees in criminal justice, agriculture, business administration, theatre and dance, education, music, art and design, creative writing, radiation therapy, anthropology, geography, sociology, international studies, social work, philosophy, and health administration.

Masters degrees are also awarded in aquatic biology, accounting, creative writing, education, geography, industrial mathematics, healthcare administration, interdisciplinary studies, professional counseling, music, recreation and leisure services, theatre, social work, and wildlife ecology.

The University Awards only six highly recognized Doctoral degrees, in school improvement education, adult, professional and community education, aquatic resources, and in geography. It is a must for the unmarried students to stay in the University itself. The university has its recital hall, an auditorium, a music building, an outdoor theatre, and well equipped library. A certified course in Creative Writing is also available which is highly recognized by Associated Writing Programs. The University also offers the countrys first stuttering therapy program.

For in-state students, the tuition and fees for undergraduate studies was $2680 per semester late in 2005-2006. Students applying from out of state or for graduate students will have different costs. Various financial aids like grants, loans, work study programs, scholarships based on merit are easily available from the University.
