Protecting Your PC from Hackers

Ivan Cuxeva

Every time you connect to the Internet and send any e-mails or personal information to any website you tend to broadcast your IP address unknowingly throughout the web. Hence, the hackers can very easily take charge of your computer and creating problems. The intruders can very easily gain access to your personal data like credit card details. They can even read your e-mails, trace your bank account number, delete important files and even plant viruses in your computer. There are many ways through which you can save your computer from being hacked.

The first and the foremost thing that you need to do is to install a good anti-virus in your computer. An antivirus helps in tracing the viruses and removing them from your computer. But it will only get rid of the known viruses. You have to regularly update your anti-virus. Search on your anti-virus companys website for information on latest viruses. The more you keep your anti-virus software updated the more you will stay protected.

Never open suspicious e-mails even if they are from your friend. Exercise caution while opening mails especially the ones with strange hyperlinks. You never know when they will infect your computer.

Use passwords which are hard to guess. Never share your passwords with anyone. You should never use the same password at more than one place. If anyone gets to know about one of your passwords then you certainly do not want them to use the same for accessing other accounts. Create meaningless passwords or using numerals and change them regularly.

Install firewalls in your computer. They act as a wall between you and the outside world. These are of two types. One is the software firewall which protects your computer and the other is the hardware firewall which lets you protect many computers at a time.

Disconnect your computer when you are not surfing the internet. This will reduce your chances of getting infected by viruses or someone accessing your computer.

Back-up your data regularly as you never know when you will loose your data. Use floppies for saving small amounts and CDs for huge amounts of data.
