Just so everyone knows, that video is not very credible, for example.. our own moon was created when a meteorite smaller then the one shown in this video hit the earth. The collision made earth crackle and a piece of it detached from earth but didn't make it away from earth and got caught in a new orbit around earth. Rest assured that is a meteorite hit earth with that kind of size everything would be over in a few seconds ( apart from earth being crushed into smaller pieces).

The moon/meteorite theory is just a theory based on it's composition.

It is possible a meteorite that large could hit earth, but it would have to be travelling EXTREMELY EXTREMELY fast in order for astronomers not to be able to predict it. so fast that it would all but obliterate the planet and change its orbit.

but if it was slow traveling, and heavy enough, and a way couldnt be devised to alter it's course. that's pretty much what would happen.

I have to disagree with you here. Everything wouldn't be "over in a few seconds." Things, even untangible fast moving things like shock waves and heat waves, must still travel distance in order to be experienced. If you lived directly beneath the impact, it would be over within a few seconds. But if you lived across the planet, the seismic activity would likely take many minutes or even hours (I haven't done the calculations) to actually kill you.

I also take issue with the moon theory. There is a lot of evidence that supports it, but it can't be taken as an absolute fact. The moon could have just as easily been a smaller planet like Mercury that formed in just the right place during the formation of the solar system and was caught by the gravitation pull of the Earth.

The best theory is that the moon is actually created out of earth matter, in the time when earth was mostly molten hot metal and it blobbed right off.
