Fun and Entertainment for the Entire Family

Blake Provo

While vacationing at Deer Valley there are so many activities to participate in, but visiting Utah Olympic Park is a must. Located merely 5 miles from the Deer Valley ski resort; this huge complex was home to the 2002 Winter Olympic bobsled, luge, skeleton, and some ski jumping events. Even though the Olympics are long gone, this park still offers great fun for the whole family whether it's winter or summer. Make sure you schedule this in on your Deer Valley vacation itinerary.

Utah Olympic Park is in a beautiful location only a couple minutes away from Deer Valley and provides something for everyone. In the winter months, those ready to pay the price can take The Comet down the bobsled track that Olympic athletes used. This aggressive bobsled ride goes up to 80 miles per hour and applies 5Gs on the athletes. Once helmet-clad you go down the track with two friends and a driver, achieving the 3 mile distance in under a minute. This is not for the faint of heart, but it is an amazing experience for the daring soul. In the summer months, The Comet is equipped with wheels which gives it the ability to travel down a concrete track. This ride isn't as difficult but it's fun and less expensive. A few other rides that are available for the daring summer guest include two zip lines where you can zip high above the beautiful scenery at up to 50 miles per hour and the Quicksilver alpine slide. The alpine slide is a fairly new addition to the park and offers fun for children of all ages although the younger ones must be accompanied by an adult.

For those that feel no need for speed, there are plenty of other activities that do not involve a harness. Located just a couple steps away from the parking area is the Joe Quinney Winter Sports Center inside of which are two museums. One gives guests a nostalgic view of ski history and the 2002 Olympic Museum showcases pictures and other memories from the games.

Visitors are also able to take a guided (or self-guided) tour of the park to view all of the facilities. In addition to the bobsled track, there are 6 Nordic ski jumps and other jumps for freestyle aerials. In the summer months you may watch freestyle aerialists practicing their tricks and flips as they fly off a ski jump and plunge into a 750,000-gallon-pool. The practice pool is open in the summer to allow freestyle jumpers to refine their tricks.

Whether you want to experience a part of Olympic history, careening down the bobsled track at incredible speeds, or just enjoying the fine scenery; this park has something for everyone. Package deals can be purchased for visitors interested in participating in a combination of activities.
