When Mama Is Happy Everyone Is Happy

Alane Brown

You Change Your Life and in Doing So - Change Your Family's Life

Most people have heard the expression, when Mama is happy everyone is happy, in its reverse it goes something like this: If Mama aint happy, there aint nobody happy. Its terrible grammar, I know but it sure says it all. Certainly as a wife and mother, I set the tone for my home. There have been times in my life when I had forgotten though. It was usually around stressful times, during times of trails and misfortunes. This is one of the main reasons I began working from home. I wanted to change my life. I wanted to change myself so that I could become a more calm and peaceful soul and energy for my family. Yes, I wanted to make money as well but have found that secondary to having a peaceful soul. Let me tell you this little story.

I once noticed this guy working, actually he was a mechanic, and he was working among a bunch of other mechanics. They were working on a house not far away from my office. The reason he stood out from among the rest was because he always appeared to be having fun while he worked and he had a lot of happy energy about him. You could call it having a cheerful heart. He always had a kind word and smile for every one he met. No matter what the weather - cold, gloomy, or sunless, he constantly had a happy smile that seemed to dance upon his cheerful face. One morning we actually met face to face so I asked him the secret of his constant happiness and his ability to pass that sunshine on to others so easily all day no matter what was happening.

It is no secret he replied. I have one of the best of wives ever and when I go to work, she always has a kind word of encouragement for me as I leave; and when I get home, she meets me with a smile and a kiss; and then offers me a little snack she has already prepared and she has done so many little things through the day to please me that I cannot find it in my heart to speak an unkind word to anybody.

Wow. How inspiring is that? It certainly encourages me to be a happier wife and mother. One who is always looking for the good. One that so appreciates her husband and all he does for our family so deeply that my gratitude emanates from with in me towards him and he has joy as deep as this mechanic friend of mine.

Some of the happiest homes I have ever been in, in fact I will call them ideal homes in my humble opinion, where intelligence, peace, and harmony reside, have been homes of poor people. No rich carpets covered the floors; there were no expensive paintings on the walls, no piano, and no library. However, there were contented minds, devoted and unselfish lives, each contributing as much as possible to the happiness of all, and endeavoring to compensate by intelligence and kindness for the poverty of their surroundings. One cheerful, bright, and contented spirit in a household can uplift the tone of all the rest. The tone and feel of the home is in the hand of the most cheerful member of the family, and he or she will set the arena for the rest. Very often, its the mom. When Mama is happy, everyone is happy.

If a wife cannot make her home bright and happy and keep it basically clean so that it shall be the sweetest, most cheerful place her husband can find refuge in then God help the poor man, for he is virtually homeless, in my opinion. Men need a retreat from the difficulties and troubles of the world. One of the secrets to having a happy home is to express the affection you have inside your soul and providing a happy home is one way of doing just that.

Also, children need to know that they do not live in a hopeless, cheerless, cold world; but a world filled with cheerfulness and love. A happy home can transform their lives like sunlight, making their hearts glad and filled with peace. My home has changed since I began to desire peace and love to fill my heart and stopped worrying about all the worldly things. I got my heart and soul in order and the rest of my life just seems to fall into place. My personal path to peace was traveled as I sought God and His desire for my life. I wish peace and joy for all who are seeking.
