How to Turn Off Internet Explorers Proxy Setting Detection Feature

Glen Baker

If, for any reason, you wish to turn off Internet Explorers proxy setting detection feature, begin by clicking on Start. This button is found at the left lower portion of your computers toolbar and is labeled Start.

On the Start menu, look for the Control Panel and click on it. Next, double click on Internet Options (some may be Network and Internet Connections).

Once you have opened the Internet Options, a set of tabs will come into view. Look for the Connection tab and go to this tab. Afterwards, click on the Local Area Network Settings.

By clicking on the Local Area Network Settings, you will give rise to the Local Area Network settings window. When you go to this window, a list of setting options will appear.

Flick through this list of setting options. Afterwards, uncheck the setting option labeled Automatically Detect Settings.

At this point, click OK. You have already turned off Internet Explorers proxy setting detection feature.

Restart your computer in order to ensure that the new setting will be recognized by your system. Once the computer has restarted, you wont see the message Detecting Proxy Settings anymore whenever you open Internet Explorer.

In this guide, changing the proxy settings is done only through Windows 98, Windows XP, and Vista versions. You may not be able to use this guide to change proxy settings if you are running other versions of MS Windows.

In case you want to enable Internet Explorers proxy setting detection feature, repeat the process mentioned above and check the appropriate option that you had unchecked. Afterwards, restart your computer. This will enable Internet Explorers proxy setting detection feature.
