From Travel Cribs to Travel Bibs

Many people find that traveling with children creates a very different reality for them when it comes to their ability to just pick up and go. Those who have long enjoyed the freedom that travel can bring need not lose that ability just because of the addition of young ones to the family. In fact, new experiences will probably present themselves just because of the very nature of traveling with children. Many people find that when traveling with their kids, they seek out the special experiences they want their children to have without realizing just how important and special those experiences will be to them as well.

For those who are concerned about the logistics of travel, here is the golden rule: be prepared. Being prepared sometimes means that you have to pack a little more, or work a little harder on your organizational skills, but it is almost always well worth the effort. When it comes to what you need to bring with you, let's start with the beginning of your trip. Whether you are going on vacation or just visiting family, there will likely be plenty of time spent walking from one location to the next. If you haven't looked into travel strollers, it is high time you did so. Not only can you make your time in the airport more pleasant by having a safe place for your child to ride, but you can probably get that diaper back off your shoulder for a little while too! Most travel strollers these days are capable of folding down to very small sizes that can easily work for carry-on luggage, and likewise, it will fit well into cars.

We all know that children are not the neatest of eaters and even those with the very best table manners still sometimes walk away wearing some of their dinner. Rather than doing something as uneconomical and environmentally damaging as using something disposable for a bib, you might consider bringing along a number of their bibs (or making a travel set) and an extra plastic bag to put the dirty ones in. Even if you wait until you get home to do the laundry, all you have to do is empty out a bag into the laundry and turn the machine on. Sure, you're walking around with a number of dirty bibs in your luggage, but that's a much smaller item than a bag full of dirty clothes from every meal that your child ate! Plus, you save room on all the extra outfits you won't have to bring along with you!

Finally, you will want to make sure that you have appropriate sleeping accommodations. Older kids and adults you can put on the couch or on a blow up mattress for the night, but not so when it comes to your smaller children. A baby travel bed can make all the difference when it comes to being able to stay comfortable at friends', relatives' or even hotels. Knowing that your child is sleeping in a safe and comfortable place will allow you the peace of mind to rest easy. Travel cribs come in all shapes and sizes, and if you play your cards right, you can probably find one that can double as a great space for your baby to be in outdoors (at the beach, the park, etc), as well as at night and for nap time.
