Anxiety Causes, Symptoms and Treatment

Vanya Hartwell

Anxiety attack definition - The sudden onset of intense anxiety, characterized by feelings of intense fear and apprehension and accompanied by palpitations, shortness of breath, sweating, and trembling.

Although an anxiety attack can't kill you (even though you may think otherwise at the time) it's not a healthy way of living. You should work to cure your anxiety whether through natural or therapeutic methods.

These resources are NAMI, or the National Alliance on Mental Illness, crisis lines, and Anxiety support groups. You can talk to your therapist (if you have one) about these resources and they should be able to provide you with information about one or all of these. Most Counselors provide patients with a crisis line in the event they are not doing well, perhaps feeling suicidal, and need someone to talk to more immediately.

Causes Anxiety

Isn't pot supposed to make you mellow, laid back, chill? Well, it does, that's right it does. The only problem is that it only does that for some of the people, some of the time. For other people it does the exact opposite, it's can make you anxious, paranoid, anti-social.

Maybe you've been there, I sure have! It's not fun. In fact, it can be down right terrifying and frightening.

Anxiety/panic disorder typically begins in late adolescence or early childhood. It typically occurs in response to a sudden loss. Also, severe separation anxiety that you experienced during early childhood can trigger anxiety/panic disorder.

High levels of anxiety can engage this fight/flight response, and is the most likely cause of your anxiety (panic) attacks. So your next question might be "what causes the high levels of anxiety?" - and while this is a valid question, the answer will unlikely produce any practical benefits.

Symptoms of Anxiety

Dizziness -- Dizziness may be experienced by anxiety sufferers which makes it difficult to keep their balance or to remain standing. The person may also become even more anxious if she believes that it is due to some illness such as a brain tumor or heart disease.

Two of the side effects of this type of drug are weight gain and fatigue. The medication is not addictive but a dependence can develop for long term use. After a tapering off period of about two weeks, the dependence for the drug is usually gone. In many cases, you can be on the drug for a long period of time without problems depending on other health issues.

Sweating is a common panic attack symptom. It is just your body's reaction to fear and flight that you are experiencing. When you are experiencing the symptoms like trouble with breathing or chocking sensation, you will usually experience the sensation of passing out. Hot flashes or chills are also very common followed by hyperventilation, trembling or shaking. But the most discomforting will have to be nausea or stomach cramps.

Anxiety Treatment Options

One of the most common anxieties in life is centered on social phobia. Social phobia is the very real fear of social situations. When a person feels anxiety related to social phobia, they may find themselves purposefully removing themselves from family events and outings. Social phobias can quickly move into full blown agoraphobia (fear of leaving the house) if they are left untreated.

Avoid alcohol.

Alcohol can aggravate anxiety. People with anxiety are often tempted to drink alcohol before and/or during social engagements as it initially decreases their anxiety. However, after alcohol has been in your system for a few hours it acts as a stimulant, making you more likely to hyperventilate and putting you at increased risk of having a panic attack.

Medication

Medication can be very helpful for sufferers of anxiety as its decreases anxiety symptoms whilst you are taking it. HOWEVER, MEDICATION DOES NOT CURE ANXIETY DISORDERS. Some people may choose not to use medication, others will choose to combine cognitive behavioural therapy or some other type of therapy with medication, and some people may only utilize medication.
