Blackboard Learning Management System
Steven Ross
Learning management systems are created as a result of thousands of hours of research and development and the organizing of diverse pools of information. In the beginning an organization, possibly a company or a university will define a problems and create jobs for those who are in the business of solving these types of problems. Then a conference may be organized, reviews of the various components presented and then an implementation of a solution may be presented. Building the technology to create the solution may be required as well.
Learning Management Systems are important is the manufacturing sector as well. As the system is used inevitably MRO is required. What is MRO? Maintenance, Repair and Operations This is the term that refers to materials and services that do not go directly into the end product but are used by the plant to maintain, repair oroperate the machinery and processes used in the actual manufacturing activity.
Most of the material these systems use manages is considered "blue collar" plant-level MRO. A LMS system can be programmed to procure and manage many items including the following types of supplies: blue-print tooling, computer supplies, cutting tools/abrasives, engineering supplies, filtration supplies, gloves & safety supplies, fasteners, hand tools, electrical, electronic, fluid power, OEM spare parts, power transmission, raw material, repair, machine and electrical spare parts in addition to other indirect material such as office supplies and general equipment.
LMS can also be used in education. This would be how The Parents' Preference Test (PPT) - a psychological parenting style test used in family therapy programs, parental competency examinations, child custody evaluations, etc. would have been created.
The Blackboard Learning Management System became one of the most important players in the learning management system industry with its acquisition of WebCT. The key then is for a company like Blackboard focus on integrating products, keeping customers informed and satisfied, and improving its core technology.
Another Learning Management System is Microsoft SharePoint. This is a browser-based collaboration and document management platform from Microsoft. It can be used to host web sites that access shared workspaces and documents, as well as specialized applications like wikis and blogs from a browser. SharePoint does not intend to replace an entire file server (e.g., an imposed 5 gigabyte file size limitation. The term "SharePoint" is commonly used to refer to one of the following two products:
Windows SharePoint Services (WSS) Microsoft Office SharePoint Server (MOSS) The SharePoint family also includes the Microsoft Office SharePoint Designer (SPD)
