Glue - The right Glue For The Right Job

dazza walker

Glue is a product that we use day in day out and take it always for granted. We needs glue or adhesives for everything, whether it's tiling our bathroom and kitchen, maybe sticking skirting boards instead of using nails, or maybe you have broke your wife's favorite ornaments and need the super glue before she notices. The only thing to remember is that there are certain glues for certain jobs and even one that advertise that they stick anything to anything isn't that true. If you take the stance that super glue, for example, will stick anything then you might run into trouble later on depending on the types of surface, so I would advise anyone to do their homework on what they want to stick, under what condition this will be (ie damp or dry), how good you need the adhesive or glue to be and for how long you expect it to stay (ie you might be sticking something that only needs to do you for weeks or you are mending something you expect to keep for years). After you get these answers then you need to know the types of glue there is to choose from:-

White Glue - Quite a primitive glue which is non-toxic, non-flammable and quite odourless, but only really good for sticking paper, cloth or wood but nothing more.

Super Glue - An extremely fast drying, strong glue. It dries with an odourless bond, transparent bond and is very strong. Only needed in small amounts.

Rubber Cement - As the name suggests, a rubber dissolved in cement. As the cement dries, so the bond develops.

Epoxy Resin - Very tough, strong resin that will bond with a lot of materials.

In conclusion, whether you are bonding an everyday item for use over and over again, or are bonding something for a specific special project then always do your homework as to what glue you need and what it is capable of.
