Birthing Options - Where to Deliver Your Baby
Andrew Levin
One of the first decision you need to make is where to deliver your baby. Nowadays most babies are born in the hospitals.
There are a few options to deliver your baby: - Hospitals - Birthing centers - Your own home
Hospitals
Hospital birth offers security in the event of complications. Hospitals have all the equipments and expertises available for giving pain relief, monitoring the baby's progress, intervening in the birth to help you and your baby, and providing emergency care if necessary.
In addition, after the birth, a few days in the hospital may give you the rest you need from coping at home.
Birthing Centers
Birthing centers are perfect for someone who doesn't want to be in a hospital, but isn't comfortable giving birth at home.
Your Own Home
Home birth typically is assisted by midwife since most doctors usually are unwilling to deliver a baby at home. If you are healthy, under 35, and your pregnancy is progressing normally, you may choose to deliver at home. You may be able to be more relax during labour with your family and familiar environment around you.
Whatever option you choose, make sure that both you and your husband are comfortable with the choice. Consult with your doctor as delivery approaches because if you are at risk for complications, you may want to consider a different location than originally planned.
Although no one can predict exactly how your delivery will go, you can educate yourself and be prepared for most situations. Read as much as you can and talk with your doctor or midwife and your partner.
