Toddlers - A Safe Play Area Is A Must.

If you have a toddlers or infants in the two year old to five year old category you will know that you can't keep your house safe enough. Children under these ages are either not walking or are not that sure on their feet. Children over that age are starting to get some sense of right and wrong and you can speak to them and they will understand to a certain degree. However in between these age you have kids that can get into every corner of your home and don't have any fear of whats dangerous or wrong.
With the exception of those who live in a bungalow a great place tp start is at the stairs where the most damage could be done to any child. Put stair gates on at the bottom and top of the stairs as you don't want them to able to climb the stairs and then take a tumble. These are very easy to install and are more than strong enough to fend off a young child. The next thing to do is to put safety catches on your cupboard doors. Make sure they can't get a door open too easily, especially if they are in the kitchen and in the cabinets could be bleach or and other toxic liquid. The next place to protect is the place where you will put them to play which is their own room. As an adult it is easy to make as much storage as possible and install shelves etc. but if your child sees a toy up high that they want they won't call mum or dad to get it. They will try to get it themselves, and maybe with a sore conclusion. Therefore put all their favourite toys at ground level if possible and hideaway any electric leads from televisions etc and if possible use safety plug covers that stops your child getting at any plugs and switches. If your child has games that involve a lot of smaller pieces then be careful to make sure there is nothing to choke on so your child can play in safety.
Aonther thing is to watch for cleanliness in your childs play areas. Eventhough your house should be clean anyway, it is more so for your child as they will drop foods and pick it up to eat, or will crawl on their hands then put their fingers in their mouth so these things have to be monitored.
In conclusion you can never be too careful when it comes to your childs safety, and when possible you will probably be playing with your child and be with them anyway. On the other hand though, when you have things to do and your child just wants to explore the surrounding try to make this area as safe as possible and with boundaries to contain them.
