How to Relieve Stress: 7 Ways to Relieve Stress Today

Emil Raal

There is an abundance of products available on how to relieve stress and it shouldn't surprise you. The world is full of stressful people. We are so busy being busy we have little time for anything else.

Our lives are a result of the crazy world we live in. Think about it. We chase around hour after hour every day and we end up without any time. Money, success, careers and family are what drives us to keep going day in and day out and as a result we have become 'stressed out'; ticking time bombs ready to blow at any minute.

Disease, chronic illness, hypertension and even heart attacks are just some of the symptoms of stress. Most of us don't even realize the kind of stress we put ourselves under. Your body has an amazing ability to help you deal with a sudden stressful situation when you may need to protect yourself. We were not however supposed deal with stress all the time.

So how does one go about relieving the effects of stress on your body? Before we get to the 5 points on effective stress relief there are two things you should think about doing for yourself on a daily basis to avoid stress.

The first thing is to get off adrenaline. One of the best tips on how to relieve stress is to plan better. Life happens and there are always going to be surprises you can't avoid but it doesn't have to be like this all of the time. A little planning can be the best thing you can do to keep your stress levels down. Remember that your life could be on the line.

The second thing is to drink less caffeine and if you are a smoker to cut back, or better yet, quit smoking. Nicotine and caffeine can cause harmful stress to the body. Try to limit your intake where possible.

Ok so let's take a look at 5 things you can do to help your body and mind better deal with stress.

1. Get some exercise Its not really important what exercise means to you. It could be working out at the gym, going for a long walk or even going for a run. What is important is that you exercise regularly and you do an exercise that relaxes you. It is pointless to perform and exercise is you are not enjoying doing it.

2. Relaxation and meditation I know it sounds easy to say just relax or chill out but most people don't know how to. It is not necessary to meditate like a Zen master, although this can be very relaxing, but you should take a time out where you are free from disruptions and noise and you can have a little alone time.

3. Treat yourself This isn't an invitation to go out and shop. It does mean doing something for yourself. You could just take the time to be by yourself without any interruptions or you could go treat yourself to a massage or a good book.

4. Video and board games Games can be excellent stress relievers. Put some thought into who you invite to play with to make sure you avoid the game becoming to intense and stressful. There are some great free software games you can download off the internet that are great to help relieve stress

5. Sleep it off Get proper rest. Interrupting your sleeping habits can cause serious stress on your mind and body. To rest properly your mind needs to be at rest. It may sound impossible but you can stop yourself from reacting to the thoughts that cause you to stress.

You do not need to do all of the above right away but you should start with one, get in the habit of doing it regularly and then start the next one. Relaxing is what is important not what you do. Don't wait, start today.
