Finding Happiness by Granting a Wish
Danoel Galliatta
It is visible for all to see in the top lines of the U.S. Declaration of Independence: the God-given right and ability to find those things that make us happy. Although it is hard to believe, there are individuals who cannot find the inspiration to accomplish such an easy feat. Many people hope for a quick return of satisfaction and happiness, but unfortunately there is no guarantee.
Society has led many individuals to believe that material objects like cars, homes, and possessions will make them happy. However, this is unrealistic and untrue. Even some of the richest people in the world are not the happiest. Donald Trump reportedly said, "The people who say money can't buy happiness don't know where to shop." Of course this was in response to the old adage, Money can't buy happiness, and Mr. Trump finds the business of making money enjoyable.
If a person's basic needs are taken care of, more money and material things mean little beyond tangible accumulation; it may still seem something is missing. The more we give and do for others, the more satisfied we will be with our own lives. When you are thinking about others more than yourself, your focus tends to shift.
Even those individuals who have little in the way of money can find something to give. Gestures as simple as a smile or word of encouragement can often mean as much as monetary gifts, and both the giver and receiver benefit as well.
The Make-A-Wish Foundation boasts a worthy cause and an inspirational message. The Make-A-Wish Foundation is a fantastic organization to become involved with, whether you are looking to donate money or time. A terminally ill child's happiness and hope, although sometimes hard to come by, can be their greatest reward and yours as well.
Requests from many of these children involve meeting celebrities or someone else they admire, as well as wishes to visit special destinations. Other children wish for things they have never had, including computers, video game systems, or a themed bedrooms. The only boundaries exist within the mind of the child.
When it comes to assisting this organization, there are dozens of options available. Anyone who has enjoyed financial success and has the ability to donate can do so knowing a child's wish will come true. Sometimes the spending of one's time with a qualified child can be just as beneficial as spending one's money; you don't have to be rich in order to provide what is needed. The Make-A-Wish Foundation can also benefit financially from individuals who have automobiles they can donate. The Foundation has partnered with a variety of airlines who will redeem unused frequent flier miles to assist in granting childrens wishes.
With the profits donated to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, you can help raise money by holding a tag sale or selling baked goods. The number of ways to help is seemingly infinite.
People of all backgrounds, financial situations, or social affiliations can discover a way to provide help. It doesn't matter whom or what you support, or whether you donate money or time; finding a cause you believe in is what is really important. Nothing you spend your money on will bring you a greater return on your investment. I promise you there is no better way to find happiness.
