New Plastic surgery techniques

Steven Norris

Mankind continually benefits with the advent of new and advanced medical procedures. And with particular regards to cosmetic surgery. Plastic surgery has evolved from invasive procedures that took patients months to heal into surgeries that can be done over lunchtime! Plastic surgeons work long hours to perfect their techniques, and we can all benefit from their advances in surgery. Highlighted below are several procedures that are leading the way; not only in technique but in science as well.

Liposuction is a procedure which takes a considerable effort from the surgeon and has the two-fold effect of being traumatic and painful for the patient as well. Now, a Dr Robert Cucin has devised a new liposuction method which will cut down on both cost, recovery time and associated pain. The issue, he says, is that surgeons need to shove the cannulas [the fat cell sucking tubes] back and forth under the skin thousands of times during the surgery. Therefore, every time the doctor pushes it forward, tissue and blood vessels become bruised. Now, using his patented twin-cannula designed tubes, Dr Cucin has designed a machine where the surgeon can sculpt, unleashing within the true artist. So instead of shoving the fat around, you position the outer tube to the desired spot and the inner tube begins the work. It is as smooth as using an electric sander on fine wood Dr Cucin explains. Today, many plastic surgeons are using Dr Cucins machine successfully; the duel-tube machine has become so popular, that the good doctor is already working on a follow-up.

Pain management is an issue many patients experience after surgery and many surgeons have a tough time handling patients pain expectations. However, there is always someone ready to step up to the challenge and solve the problem at hand. That man is Dr Brian M. Kinney, plastic surgeon and director of BioElectronics, who are the creators of the ActiPatch. The ActiPatch is an adhesive pain patch which uses fields of pulsing electromagnetic to ease pain and promote the healing of post-operative wounds. With the ActiPatch operational, there is a 30 to 50 percent reduction in days required for healing. The ActiPatch is already obtainable in selected surgeries and post-operative pain can almost be eliminated by employing this amazing new device.

Breast augmentation, a procedure that is already quick and painless, has become even more accessible due to the creation of a new device called the Celution. The Celution uses a technique which has been in practice for years now and applies it to the enlargement of the breasts. The patients own fat is taken from their thighs or buttocks using the Celution machine. The Celution then seperates the stem cells and other regenerative cells and, in roughly an hours time this super-charged fat mixture is injected directly into their breasts, increasing them by two cup sizes and giving them that desired, naturally perky look and feel. The Celution is still in the testing and development stages, but the doctors and engineers predict that it will be available for use, sometime in 2009.

Science marches on, and with these new andground-breaking techniques, we the consumer are always sure to benefit. Plastic surgery becomes more cost-effective and safer every day meaning that one day it may be completely feasible to have a nose job over lunch time, or a face lift before an important meeting.
