Knowing The Rules To Outdoor Fun

Steven Lancey

Outside the four walls of your home is a world of adventure and excitement. Its a place to mix and mingle with people. A place you can explore and find different ways to entertain yourself. A place where you can keep fit and be healthy.

However, you must be prepared before you begin your big adventure. The outside world can also be a dangerous place for thrill seekers. Before you embark on any exercise program, check with your doctor first and know your limits.

Two popular outdoor sports that can help you stay in shape are hiking and biking. With the right attitude and the proper equipment, these exercises can get rid of flab and make you fit as a fiddle.

Hiking

Decide on a place to go, how to get there, how to get home, the number of people going, and the supplies needed. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes, always walk on the left side of the highway facing approaching vehicles in a single file. Stay with the crowd and obey the instructions of the leader. Never stray into strange swamps, woods or fields. Stay away from the banks of swiftly moving water and places where there might be quicksand. Watch out for snakes, deadly insects, and poisonous plants, stay away from the highway when resting. Return before dark and be sure you know how to get back home.

Biking

Be sure the seat of the bike is of the right height and is securely fastened. Use the warning signal or bell to tell others of your approach. Don't carry a passenger on the back of your bicycle. This overloads your bike and you may fall over easily. Never drive too fast or you may knock down another child or bump into an adult. Keep to the right and turn at corners slowly. Respect the rights of pedestrians, especially if riding on the sidewalk is permitted. Dont hook your bicycle onto another bike. Obey traffic lights, signs, and road markings. Stop at crossroads and railroad tracks. Use a good reflector behind your bicycle so that it can be seen well at night.

Just follow these simple rules and use a little common sense and you will have the time of your life!
