Child Care Re-Licensing - Quality Child Care For Parents
What most people, parents and child care workers alike, dont realize is that child care is a profession. In order to be in a profession, you need to be a professional. The definition of a professional encompasses many aspects: having entry level requirements, a professional association, a code of ethics, a process of certification or licensing for anyone wanting to be in this profession, and an organization that helps institutions become accredited. There also needs to be a professional development system to help those in the profession continue their education and training to stay current in the field.
Child care meets all those criteria however we as a whole are far from professional. As Ive mentioned before, entry level requirements are minimal and although states have increased the requirements for individuals to begin in this field, much more needs to be done. Child care workers can choose to be a member of the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) however there are only about 100,000 members currently out of the 2.3 million child care workers (NAEYC). Benefits of being a member include a bimonthly journal, free training from the local affiliate, and discounts on state and national sponsored training, not to mention the online resources, all for around $40 depending on local charges and what type of membership you choose. Seems like a worthwhile investment to me.
Parents, are you looking for quality daycare or childcare? Are you looking for someone whos more than a babysitter? Wondering what your states standards and regulations are? Want your children to get a good early childhood education from a teacher who cares and is qualified? Have you checked out your local Child Care Resource and Referral Agency (CCR&R) for quality childcare?
I hope by watching my videos as well I can offer some help and guidance for your childcare needs.

Ive also written a book because of my experiences in teaching and, most importantly, my experiences teaching in child care. Ive always been one to demand excellence in everything I do and from everyone I encounter. The fact that child care is less than excellent keeps me searching for a way to improve the standards that arent meeting my, and hopefully your expectations.
I always thought that if Im a good teacher and a good role model, then others will follow suit and step up to the challenge of creating quality child care, and that it would be enough. Ive always hoped that there are more people out there that have the same standards I do and are creating the same quality than not, but the more I teach, the more I find this isnt the case.
