The Mod has glued and blindstitched seams. O'Neill's proven waterproof seam is double stitched partially through the surface and triple glued to create a water-tight seam. If the thread breaks, the seam will not unravel. When a needle is used to stitch neoprene in the construction process the tiny holes allow water to enter. Fluid seam weld, foxing and other next generation technologies allows Oneill to build a product that is 100% sealed. Next, in the chest and lumbar the Mod has a firewall insulating-fiber jersey. That is lightweight and works great for wicking away moisture and increases warmth. In fall 2008 Oneill delved deep into the mechanics of the Mod Series, coming up with a refined version of their patent-pending, modulated closure system.

With a modular closure there are: interchangeable crew neck and hood, plasma seals fluid seam bands on shoulder lining seal out water, floating zipper system which maximize flexibility by allowing zippers to float as an unrestricted external layer and drain holes in the front and rear that guide out any water that enters. Plus the Oneill 5/4 Mod has plasma interior wrist & ankle seals. Which, is a fluid seam weld seal at the wrists and/or ankles to prevent over expansion and seal out water. These all work together to keep you warmer and drier during your surf session. The krypto knee patch is abrasion resistant, high stretch neoprene panel with ergonomic shaping for comfortable durability. Lumbar Seamless Design allows for max stretch, minimal water entry in this key stress area.
