Till date it is the oil that is the most demanded liquid but in the coming decades this slot is going to be taken by water. Water is going to be the most important issue. On the other hand the globe is sure to face water crisis. We are not talking about sea water but fresh water that can be drunk. It is well known that in some countries beer is cheaper than mineral water. This only reveals that as time passes the drinkable water is going to diminish. This is going to lead to a situation in which water will need to be managed systematically and methodically so that everyone can survive and have water to drink. When the water management sector is going to boom, there is going to be rise in the prospects for career opportunity in this sector. The Principles of water management are applicable to 1 water resources management 2 protection against floods, 3 Irrigation 4 provision of drinking water, 5 treatment of sewage water 6 treatment of waste water 7 treatment of industrial water Rivers, reservoirs, wells and other underground sources of water are the main sources of water. This is not always drinkable of fit for other purpose. So this water is subjected to treatment for making it usable as per the requirement.
Drinking Purpose: If one wants to make the water fit for human consumption that the water has to be made void of bacteria, fungi, algae, viruses, and other solid substances like sand. If there are any pollutant chemicals then one needs to get rid of them too. Water from the wells, tube wells, water reservoirs and other water bodies needs to be treated for making it fit for human consumption. In some places the desalination plants are set up to treat the salt water from the sea and make it drinkable.
Effluent: Usually the effluent of the industries can pollute the water bodies. This can be disastrous in such a way that the whole marine ecosystem of the rivulet or any water body where this water is discharged is destroyed. Before letting this effluent water out of the factory premises it needs to be treated to meet some rules and regulations as stipulated by the government.
Irrigation: Sometimes the water for irrigation needs to be in controlled quantity . If the water is scare then the crop will spoil. On the other hand the crop can spoil if the field have flooded. Industrial use : Some of the industries require that the water that is being used in the factory to have certain qualities than can be incorporated .
Water management involves not only treatment of water but also related aspects like sewage and affluent treatment, building dams and canals. This involves Chemical, Civil and Mechanical Engineering. Even Environmental engineering is a key aspect of water management. There is going to be need of engineers as well as professionals who can handle the operations through the computers and those who can sell Trunkey projects. Executives and technicians along with engineers having some exposure to this industry are going to be in very high demand.
