10 Great Postcard Printing Ideas With Your Home Printer

John C. Arkin

Designing and printing your own post cards is not a new idea, but one that can tend to get lost in a busy schedule. After all, printing a postcard with a few of your own thoughts is not generally a top priority as you go through a busy day. Using your computer to print a quick postcard, however, can be a great time saver and a way for you to express your personal thoughts in a quick and efficient way before you get on with the rest of that busy day.

Cant find the right card

Consider how much time you spend looking for just the right card, not to mention the gas and time you use to get there. Printing a postcard from your home computer is not only a time saver but a money saver in the long run.

Save a date

Just like you, everybody else has hectic schedules; to get you ahead of the crowd, as schedules fill up, spend a minute or two working on a save-a-date card. It doesnt require too much thought, unless you want it to, and its quick.

8.5 x 11 cards

Creativity doesnt need to be stifled when you are printing a postcard for a friend or acquaintance. Most cards come in the smaller varieties and can be so predictable. Use your computer to full advantage and create full sheet postcards to be folded in half and taped shut when mailed. A thicker stock may be a good idea here.

Specific to receiver

If you are going to all the trouble of creating a postcard from your computer and printer, try being a bit personal. If the receiver has a special place or activity they enjoy, take a photo or work a thoughtful sentence or two into the card.

Take your own shots

Everybody is always complaining about getting their digital pictures out of their camera. Use your printer and ink cartridges to take advantage of programs within the printer to get those shots onto your computer for viewing.

Turn a phrase use fonts

Printers are an often underutilized tool. They can do so much more than the average user tends to take advantage of. Spend that second cup of coffee fooling around with what the printer can really do. You may find yourself using some of its more archaic features fairly often once you know theyre there.

Other ideas but maybe not a pre-generated card

Your imagination is the only limiting aspect of postcard printing. Edible cards to invisible ink offer all sorts of possibilities; the one area where you may want to think-twice, however, is the pre-made e-cards. People are somewhat leery of these types of cards as they can and do often contain viruses. Spend the extra second and print one for yourself.
