Menstruation - Causes, Symptoms and Treatment

Menstruation is a natural biological process of women. Menstruation is also a sign of a girl growing up to be a woman. The maiden time a girl starts having the menses is called menarche. After that menstruation continues till menopause. Menstruation is also a natural process of preparing a womans body to attain motherhood.

Actually, the most fertile period of a woman is during the fast few days of the menstrual cycle. Hence as menstruation takes place every month, therefore a woman achieves this vitally important phase I her lifetime every month. If during this time there is intercourse and the male ejaculation takes place within the womans vagina, the possibility of a lucky sperm impregnating an egg of the woman is always there.

Menstruation causes

It is important to understand that abnormalities of menstruation are a symptom, not a disease. If at all possible, an underlying cause should be searched for and treatment should be directed at the cause.

When a woman has abnormal menstrual cycles, the cause can lie either within the uterus, within the ovary, within the hypothalamic pituitary system, or because of some other illness or hormonal disturbance. Androgen (male hormone) disorders are very common in women with a life-long history of irregular periods. This is covered in another pamphlet and will be given to you if appropriate.

Physical causes for Menstrual irregularities. Hormones like estrogen and progesterone have a definite effect on your menstruation since they regulate the ovulation during the menstrual cycle. Without a balanced level of these hormones in their bodies, women are unable to properly ovulate producing abnormal (anovulatory) menstruation that will lead to Menstrual

irregularities. This is why maintaining healthy hormone levels is important to avoid and control Menstrual irregularities.

It is believed that one of the factors that cause these discomforts is stress. When the body has very high levels of stress produces more prostaglandins. These discomforts can be extended for up to two days and usually in the lower abdomen and lower back. If the woman has suffered from these pains started menstruation is called primary dysmenorrhea.

Menstrual Problem Symptoms:

Premenstrual tension: it includes nervousness, headache, depression, insomnia

Menstrual cramps: menstrual cramps take place due to swelling in the body. One of the major causes of menstrual problems is hormonal imbalance.

Painful menstruation: pain can take place either 2-3 days before periods or during the periods.

Lack of attention, anorexia, sleeplessness etc is not rare in a woman suffering from irregular menstruation. Sometimes a woman passes hot flesh and this is the circumstance to be taken utmost be concerned about.

treatment for common menstrual

Every woman needs to find a treatment that works for her. Perhaps the most common treatment, especially in the past, has been to lie down at the first sign of pain. It used to be that many women's restrooms contained a cot or a couch so that a woman who felt "indisposed" could lie down. A bed in the school nurse's office served the same purpose and girls were routinely excused from physical education or other classes because of menstrual cramps.

Current recommendations include not only adequate rest and sleep, but also regular exercise (especially walking). Some women find that abdominal massage, yoga, or orgasmic sexual activity help. A heating pad applied to the abdominal area may relieve the pain and congestion.
