Among popular study abroad destinations, Canada ranks first in providing a professional and ideal environment for study. Students seeking for an international education should consider study abroad in Canada since the country has the best education system that offers a wide range of graduate, undergraduate and professional programs.
International students are attracted to study in Canada because the country is blessed with politically stable environment, peaceful atmosphere, and low density of population. There has been a constant try to develop more and more effective learning methods by every college and university in Canada. This has ensured successful and prosperous careers and accelerated positive attitude among prospective students.
Universities in Canada are divided into three categories small, medium and large. Undergraduate degrees and offered by small universities while medium and large universities offer graduate degrees and doctoral programs, including professional law and medical degrees. Small universities have a personalized approach that allows students to feel like individuals. Many small universities focus on the growth and education of its students by allowing them to customize their own degrees. Canada is also endowed with innovative universities that combine classroom study and temporary jobs. These universities have various academic programs to offer. The most popular programs are engineering, applied health sciences, computer science, Arts, architecture and optometry.
At the university level, lectures and tutorials usually take place in lecture halls or classrooms. Large universities can be quite gigantic and can hold up to 500 students or more. Specialized programs generally have five students in a very small classroom. The lectures are conducted by professors who have received a PhD in their subject areas. The duration of lectures depends on the courses that are undertaken. Generally, classes at universities are conducted for an hour but can extend to two hours. Many universities in Canada allow students to make up their own timetable according to their own schedules. Most universities in Canada divide the academic year into three sessions: fall, winter and summer. A full year course lasts from September until March or April whereas a half-yearly course starts from September and ends in December. Admission requirements for graduate programs in universities generally include an honors undergraduate degree or equivalent degrees. Some universities also need letter of reference and other additional items. Students whose native language is not English are required to provide some proof of their English expertise by submitting scores from TOEFL, MELAB or IELTS. Universities also require graduates to submit their SAT and international Baccalaureate scores. The most important thing to consider while studying abroad, especially in a country such as Canada, is to have accommodation facilities that ensure a unique environment to get to experience Canadian life. In such cases, Homestays are quite popular among students coming to Canada to study English or French. Homestays are nothing but rooms for international students provided by Canadian families. The cost and the details of the homestay are sorted out mutually by the family and the student. A student studying in a post-secondary school generally lives in university residences or apartments.
