A PA system is basically a clearer version of a loud hailer or mega phone which can be used to publically address people, hence the abbreviated version Public Address system.
A pa system can also be used to address large crowds of people in the open air, in meeting rooms, in churches and other large gatherings but where they really come into their own is for live performances.
Off the shelf PA packages are perfect if you are just starting out, containing all you need for your next event, whether a band gig or an after dinner speech.

If you intend on broadcasting through a pa system you should look for one that is portable. You should get something that is portable with wheels and a pullout handle for manoeuvring and with a pole mount for sitting on top of a speaker stand.
A simple sound system is ideally suited to small venues such as churches, meeting rooms and small bars. Adding extra speakers will then intensify the sound making it a much louder sound over all.
