Acoustic guitars of Mayer, Dylan and others
Wyatt Fisk
I was playing the DVD of John Mayer's concert two years ago entitled "Where the Light Is" at the Nokia Theater, and I was particularly glued on his guitars. The guitars are the stars of the show for me, even though Mr. Mayer's performance was incredible. He changed acoustic guitars every after a song is over. Estimating from those scenes alone, the guy might be the owner of more than a couple hundred of those babies.
Although Mayer usually plays electric guitars, he actually started by using acoustic guitars. He's a lucky bloke too, who was given his own line of Acoustic Guitars by Martin Guitars. He's also been seen with an OM-EC Eric Clapton and black Guild Acoustic Guitars swinging from his shoulder. After all, his hit singles such as "No Such Thing" and "Say" have that distinct acoustic electric guitars sounds.
Bob Dylan for a time carried around a solid wood acoustic guitar (http://www.acousticguitarcorner.com/). When he was called a troubadour or something to that effect, he ditched his acoustic guitars, plugged them to electric blues and hired a band. Amplification is what acoustic guitars need, just like any other stringed instruments. Thus acoustic electric guitars were born. Resonance is converted into electronic signals picked up by the amp, that increases the volume of acoustic guitars.
Pop music's younger generation also uses a variety of acoustic electric guitars (http://www.acousticguitarcorner.com/). Avril Lavigne's personal choice are Gibson J-45 Acoustic Guitars and Takamine EAN70 Acoustic Electric Guitars. Pop-country star Taylor Swift loyally plays top-of-the-line Taylor Presentation Series Acoustic guitars. Her teardrops probably found themselves lying on that smooth Hawaiian koa wood finish.
Moving away from the popular scene, I think Ana Vidovic is one of the most amazing virtuoso guitarists of her age. Vidovic plucks her nylon string acoustic guitars so fast in perfect coordination. Her solid wood acoustic guitars she uses in performances are unadorned. Vidovic, a Croatian started performing for an international audience at age 11 and was admitted to the prestigious National Musical Academy in Zagreb at 13.
Veteran guitarists today say that guitars for beginners are a problem. The strings are too hard to fret especially for younger ones. The reputation of Seagull Acoustic guitars are also becoming known for being a little inexpensive while having good sound quality. The pricier alternative is the Yamaha F310 Acoustic guitars. If these beginners have the money to spare and know how to play better, they can go for Fender Starcaster Acoustic guitars and Gibson Hummingbird Acoustic electric guitars for the celebrity feel.
