Washing Machines: Cheap or Brand-New?
Steven Magill
Purchasing a cheap washing machine may be costly at the end. Some second hand washing machines that are already more than 6 years old may be more energy consuming than the newer ones. Then, there is the consideration that some of these cheap washing machines may be in need for repair. And unless you know the owner of the machine, you wouldn't know just how used that machine is. Like all appliances nowadays, these machines have what is called a planned obsolescence, which just means that the parts and motors are meant to last a number of years before they have to be replaced or repaired. In short, it has an expiry date. It's all part of the marketing plan of manufacturing companies to have machines last not a life time but have a shelf life. This strategy isn't necessarily a bad thing for as time passes, better technology and more efficient products are being made and introduced.
Furthermore in some products, the prices actually go down for the value being given. Think about how much laptops were a few years ago and how much they are now and you will get the picture.
Here are some of the benefits of buying a brand new washing machine:
- The warranty. With a brand new machine, there is a manufacturer's warranty for a set number of years, which ranges from a year to perhaps 2 years. In between that time, if the machine for any reason breaks down, it will be automatically replaced. Peace of mind is a good thing with this warranty.
- New technology. Most of today's washing machines are energy and water efficient. There is actually savings when buying a new machine over a number of years. It is something that is beneficial to you in the long run and may provide you with some spare money for other things.
- Design. Most new machines are integrated machines that will fit your interiors. There are also machines that come in different sizes. As space limitation in homes, condominiums and apartments are a reality these days; these integrated machines actually can be part of your kitchen area or a multi purpose room. During the 80's and before, there were some homes that needed utility rooms for their washing machines. The other alternative then was to place those washing machines in the basement. Fine, if you have a house, but what if you lived in a condominium or an apartment and wanted a washing machine.
- Payment options. You can buy these machines today at deferred payments or there are good payment plans available. And prices today are very much reasonable with the features of the machine.
