Children Come In A Variety Of Small Packages
No two children are alike, that’s for sure. But then we tend to prepare for them all in the same way… We focus primarily on the immediate care of newborns at first. While we wait for them to arrive, we start collecting everything imaginable in multiples, just to care for an infant from the moment they arrive. And then after you’ve gathered it all, it’s nearly impossible to use everything you have on-hand while they’re still really little. Right?!
The good news is that we have plenty of nearly-new items to giveaway or use again in the future. The bad news is that as our little one is growing bigger, we’re starting to run out of new resources to help us as parents. In no time it seems ‘the baby’ is moving around… and we’re dealing with something all new.
It’s only the first year, and the little darlings are getting into everything… This is when new parents really start talking to their toddlers, and the point where a parent wants a positive response from their child. The next stage ahead is the dreaded ‘terrible twos’. Then what?
There is comfort in knowing each stage of childhood is only temporary… I know from my own experience that this is when I messed up with my son. We listened to the advice of other parents and did our very best. When he was two, we called it “The Year Of The Rules” and when he was three, it was “The Year Of Repeating The Rules.”
Fast-forward… and our son is a picky eater today. He’s not like ‘all the other kids his age’ who eat everything! I wonder sometimes, “What could we have done differently?” As it turns out, it was the way we were actually talking to our toddler. He learned a lot of rules, and that was good but I know how important it is for a kid to eat right!
Experts recommend many different approaches and as a parent you’ll try everything in the book to get it right. When it doesn’t work, you get frustrated, your toddler gets angry, and the noise level gets louder and louder. Parents often give up trying, long before their angry toddlers or preschoolers give up. My husband took our son ‘outside’ many times at this age…
All in all, most of us aren’t being consistent. We’re communicating with children, but our messages are getting lost, and suddenly ‘the baby’ is in charge… There’s no reason it has to be this way. There’s a smart way to prepare ahead of time and learn ‘how to talk’ to children. Parents and grandparents alike, can use this simple method early and stop temper tantrums before they start…
Learn how to get a positive response from your children for many years to come and best of all, how to keep the peace in your home.
