Several Things About The Samsung CLP 510N Printer
Ben Pate
If you liked the Samsung CLP 500 or 550 printers you are going to love the Samsung CLP 510N printer. It has all the features that made the previous models favorites in their category, with a few bells and whistles added to it for good measure. The result is a better product with faster capabilities and a better hardware design. The case is nothing to look at but then again it is a printer not a sports car. To be fair, it is amazing what features this printer piles on for only $120, although the quality of the CLP 510N replacement toners (http://www.qtoner.us/Samsung-CLP-510N-toner-cartridges) will be no surprise.
There is one thing you need to understand from the start about this printer. It is not designed for home users. The printer is big and a bit more expensive if you are used to printers designed for the casual consumer. For a color laser printer it is actually very affordable.
Because a beast it is. To give you an idea, the box it comes in weighs around 88 pounds. It comes with four toners, basic cables and a manual.
So what's new in this version of the Samsungs CLP 510n printer? Not much, except higher speed, both in the printing and processing sides of the equation. The older model printed 21 pages a minute, now you can print 25; color printing was at 5 pages a minute while now it is 7. This is a considerable improvement on an already quick printer. A great feature of this printer is its duplexing capabilities. This term refers to the capability of double-sided printing without the user having to do anything. Just tell the printer what you want and it will take care of everything. Previous models required the user to stack the pages, turn them round and reinsert them in the feeder. This capability will save you cash in Samsung CLP compatible toners (http://www.qtoner.us/Samsung-CLP-Series-Toner), paper usage and time.
Another improvement is the processing power. The newer printer has changed its processor from a Power PC to their proprietary Samsung SPGPm chip. It is true that previous models like the 550s can hold over double the RAM memory, however you will not feel the difference, and if you do, you can always buy an upgrade.
The new CLP 510n has great image quality, although not if you are expecting picture perfect quality. If you were planning to use the office printer to get your holiday snapshots you might be disappointed. However, although not picture perfect, they are still very good.
The big point is the price. As mentioned above, many customers might feel it is pricey, but that is because they are comparing it with home use black and white laser printers. For a color printer it is cheap. You will also make savings in the cartridge maintenance with cheaper than normal prices that run around $100 and $120 for mono and full color toners.
Samsung has made a great all rounder with the Samsung CLP 510N printer. It is fast, both in printing and for data transfer, it has great resolution, and with features generally reserved to more expensive printers. The only disadvantage I can find, and it is unfair to even expect it, is the fact the printing of photographs is not completely picture perfect.
