A Feast of Rich Foods
Wilson Copeland
Everyone loves to eat. We all enjoy good food. It has been this way since the beginning of the world. In ancient times, as well as in modern times, friends and family gather to eat, socialize, and enjoy one another’s company
In Isaiah 25:6-8 we read, "On this mountain the Lord Almighty will prepare a feast of rich food for all peoples, a banquet … the best of meats and the finest of wines."
In the context of the passage, the mountain that Isaiah refers to is mount Zion. The city of Jerusalem and in particular the Temple Mount was often referred to Zion. Zion was special because God's Temple was there, and God dwelt there among his special chosen people, the nation of Israel. But the prophets often used Mt. Zion, not as a specific geographical location but in a figure, as the place where God would dwell with among his spiritual people in the last days – in other word the redeemed under the Messiah, the church.
Isaiah is telling us that in the last days – there would be a wonderful banquet for God’s people. Spiritual blessing will abound. In Eph. Chapter one Paul talks of this when he says that all spiritual blessings are in Christ – redemption, forgiveness, adoption as sons, the hope of eternal life.
Only those who are in Christ have the wonderful promise of this spiritual feast of rich foods, the spiritual banquet that God has prepared.
