The Things You Must Know About The Versitile Xerox Workcentre M20i Printer

Ben Pate

The Xerox WorkCentre M20i printer is a multifunction monochrome machine designed for use in businesses. In addition to prints from your computer, it offers fax, scanning and walk up copying services. If you need color prints, you will want to consider another machine, however, the M20i ink and toner (http://www.qtoner.us/Xerox-WorkCentre-M20-I-Toner) offers such clarity this device is worth a good look.

The WorkCentre M20i offers several ways to connect to your network. While it still offers the old fashioned parallel printer port, you can also connect using a USB2 connector, as well as a 10/100 Ethernet connection. Thus, the printer should connect easily to any network with ease.

As equipped, the machine has a 100 sheet bypass tray and a 550 sheet standard tray. An optional 550 sheet tray can be added to the machine to allow for storage of up to 1,200 sheets of paper at one time. The 550 sheet trays allow addition of a full 500 sheet ream of paper to be added when paper is low. The maximum print cycle is 20,000 sheets per month and the total recommended print cycle is 7,500 sheets per month.

Your first copy will drop into the output tray in under 8 seconds. After that time prints are produced at 22 ppm. Faxes may be sent at three pages per second. There is a delayed fax transmission feature that allows you to send large faxes when phone rates are cheaper and a battery back up that will store faxes for up to 100 hours if there is ever a power failure.

This machine produced by Xerox offers a print resolution of 600 x 600 dpi. You do have the option of up to 1200 x 1200 interpolated print resolution. The proffered 600 x 600 dpi resolution is almost a minimum standard for printers today and is certainly sufficient for black prints. Additionally, scan resolution is also the 600 x 600 dpi and fax resolution is offered at up to 400 x 400 dpi.

The internal processor, rated at only 32-bit RISC, seems small when compared to many of the 700 MHz processors standard on the color printers, but is sufficient for the simpler monochrome printer. It is large enough to allow scanning of prints directly to your e-mail and is able to store 200 numbers for the fax in the 80 MB memory.

This printer can print on plain paper, envelopes, transparencies and labels. The paper sizes that can be used may range from 5 x 7 to 8 1/2 x 14 inches. The correct paper size will automatically be selected from the available paper in the trays.

The machine features a grayscale printing factor that saves Xerox WorkCentre printer toner cartridges (http://www.qtoner.us/Xerox-WorkCentre-Series-Toner). If you are making copies that have large areas of a solid dark color, the color is printed in grayscale rather than in solid black. This feature means many prints that might otherwise be unreadable will be clear using this printer.

The Xerox WorkCentre M20i printer is a multifunction machine that can print, copy, scan and fax. It is designed for medium size businesses. Prints made from this machine are only in a monochrome format, but scanning can be done in color. This machine can meet many of your needs for a business printer for a workgroup and offers several features that are not found in printers alone.
