Traveling Across America

Steven Magill

If by chance you get around to doing it, take a tour of America overland. The country's road network is specifically designed to get you from one coast to the other, from east to west, and north to south. Primarily done for businesses to transport their good over land, the history of networking the roads together can be traced back to the railroad network which initially connected the east coast to the west coast in the 19th century. Prior to that, going from one state to the other could be an arduous task taking days, even weeks of travel. Often, it was also perilous especially when traveling to new states in the west. It is a scene reminiscent of those in the movies where caravans would travel from the old states to the undiscovered ones. These brave new settlers were homesteaders, missionaries, and new families seeking their fortune through farming, ranching and even mining.

These days, things are a lot easier when it comes to travel and every year, more than a million vehicles take the highways during the holiday season, especially during the summer to discover new places with their friends or family. It is a pilgrimage of sorts, or perhaps even indirectly, homage to those who journeyed during the Wild West.

One of the things to be remembered though is to practice safe driving protocols when on the road and the most important of this is not to drink and drive. In states like California, the sanctions for DUI can be very harsh. No more is it any harsher and complicated than in San Diego. Getting arrested and charged for DUI in San Diego necessitates hiring a dui lawyer from there. The DUI laws in San Diego are very strict and often times, if convicted, there may be jail time and serious penalties involved. Hiring a dui lawyer from San Diego is perhaps the best defense when an arrest actually happens. They are able to do the necessary things needed to prevent you from being convicted through their knowledge of the local laws and procedures. It is a caveat that should be seriously considered.

Nevertheless, as long as you follow the road rules, things will run smoothly for you in your travels over America by land. Having a car that is roadworthy, maps or GPS, communication tools like cellular or car phones, and a general curiosity and inkling about finding new things about the country are the basic things needed in your journey. Bring extra clothes and money for your food and lodging as well.
