A Tea Brand Of The World

Deirdre Gonzalez

Unilever is one of the most successful multinational companies today that owns many of the world's consumer product brands in foods, beverages, cleaning agents and personal care products. Most of the company's billion-Euro brands involves food, cleaning agents, and personal care products such as Axe, Dove, Flora/Becel, the Heartbrands, Lux, Rexona, and many more. However, other than foods, cleaing agents, and personal care products, there is one product of beverages which is also under Unilever's billion-Euro brands. This is Lipton Tea.

Lipton Tea, or more commonly known as simple Lipton, is one of Unilever's most popular and best-selling brands of beverages. Lipton is also known as the best-selling tea brand across the world. Although not as popular as other brands of teas, Lipton is known as the only tea brand recognized globally, even in countries known for their teas such as US, Russia, Saudi Arabia, France, Japan, Australia, and Sweden. Across the world, people could easily buy lipton tea because of its availability.

What is Lipton? Lipton Tea is only one of Unilever's popular brands. However, like most of the company's brands, Lipton was also acquired from other company. Many may not know this but Lipton has been around since the end of the 19th century. Lipton Tea was founded by Sir Thomas Lipton in Glasgow, Scotland. After his success with his tea brand, Sir Lipton then started a chain of grocers, first across Glasgow, the rest of Scotland, until finally he had stores throughout Britain which made it available for people to buy lipton tea.

However, the tea brand was acquired by Unilever in a number of separate transactions, starting with the purchase of the US and Canadian Lipton business in 1938 and completed in 1972 when Unilever bought the remainder of the global Lipton business. However, it was in 1991 that Unilever marketed the first ready-to-drink (bottled and canned) Lipton Tea first in North America then across the world. This was done with a joint venture with PepsiCo, the Pepsi Lipton Partnership.

Lipton Tea of Today Lipton Tea is considered today as one of the best-selling brands of tea across the world. Products target the mass market and are generally positioned in the middle of the price spectrum for tea, which makes it easy for people to buy lipton tea. Other than its success in the global market, Lipton have also experience several changes. Apart from black leaf teas, the company also markets a large range of other varieties, both in leaf tea as well as ready-to-drink format.

Some of the new brands of Lipton Tea includes: green teas, black flavoured teas, (herbal) infusions, Lipton Linea (a 'slimming tea') in Europe and Lipton Milk Tea in various Asian markets. Lipton Iced Tea, or Lipton Ice Tea, is also one of the few popular brands of Lipton Tea. For more information visit to our site at http://www.myayala.com
