Relying on the Tried and True Methods of Direct Mail
Meg Smith
Direct mail Australia is considered to be a tried and true method of marketing, but that is not to say new technology cannot be incorporated with it. In fact, these days customers actually expect to be marketed to through such social media as Facebook and Twitter. If such additions are left out any kind of marketing appears old-fashioned and jaded. But when they are added the stability of direct mail marketing reaches a new level, becoming rejuvenated and fresh as it reaches out to those customers who have also embraced new technology.
So what new technology should be added to direct mail marketing campaigns?
• Website links to Facebook and Twitter pages will create a personalized interaction that gains a better response. Where once customers looked for an 800 phone number, now they tend to look for some kind of social marketing URL. And having one allows you to create better promotions and discounts especially for such customers – and capture more information about each customer.
• This can be used to drive web traffic to a mini-page that the customer is more likely to find useful – rather than the homepage of the company. Landing straight on the page you are likely to want saves time and creates a better shopping experience.
• New technology cross and up-selling is done automatically, thus giving you more for your advertising dollar. When a customer clicks onto the site it automatically initiates a set of auto-responder emails that are likely to encourage more customer activity. Since often it takes up to 9 marketing efforts before the customer will purchase, this can be done for no or little further cost.
So while we can say that direct mail marketing is the tried and true method that brings results, it can also be upgraded to bring it in line with the 21st century.
