There are 5 procedures for RAD treatment which are as follows:

Aaron Lederer

RAD or Reactive attachment disorder has become a thoughtful issue for most parents, owing to its severity and its rising frequency among children below 5 years. A child, who is suffering from RAD, is most likely to be defiant, aggressive, shows little interests in social attachments and is full of negative approach towards others. Though there are a couple of genetic as well as environmental factors attached to it, yet mostly it happens because of negligence and lack of proper attention by parents. In fact, lack of interest in the emotional or security requirements of the child results in chronic Reactive attachment disorder. Other than RAD, Oppositional defiance disorder or ODD is another problem that a neglected child may face.

However, in order to help all such problematic children, a number of consultancies and medical organizations have come up with scientific methodologies to cure both Reactive attachment disorder as well as Oppositional defiance disorder. The procedure of the treatment basically depends on the severity, the environmental situation as well as various other individual factors.

Unsocial children suffering from RAD has to go through a lengthy procedure of counseling and medication. They are often hospitalized in order to scrutinize their day to day behavioral changes and progress.

There are 5 procedures for RAD treatment which are as follows:

1. Psychosocial Support services: This includes procedures to improve the social environment of the home. It aims to improve the financial condition of the family, assessing the capacity of the caregiver and reducing the isolation of the family.

2. Psychotherapeutic intervention: The problems of the child often begin from the family problems of the parents. Insecure relationship between the mother and the father makes the child loose faith in his/her family. So a lengthy family and marriage counseling is done to improve the family environment. It not only includes the attachment disorder problem, but also includes all possible symptoms.

3. Educational/Counseling services: This includes detailed counseling of the parents/caregiver and the child in order to sort out communication problems between the two. It aims to educate the parents and make them realize the emotional and physical security needs of the child.

4. A close monitoring and scrutiny is done from time to time in order to keep a strict vigil on the infant’s mental and physical health.

5. Finally, if all the available alternatives are unfeasible then the child is advised to be sent to an orphanage or is placed with relatives. Adoption or foster care is also advised.
