The Secret to Article Marketing Success the Experts Tried to Keep Quiet
Clare Swindlehurst
Article marketing is an important string in your bow to drive targeted traffic to your website, but unless you can convince people to actually read what you've written you will be wasting a lot of time and effort. Here are six things you should do to make your articles interesting and readable.
1. Keep your paragraphs short
Focus on one idea per paragraph and keep them short. You must break up the copy into short paragraphs as this makes the whole article easier to read and understand. Mixing lots of messages into one long paragraph is a sure fire way to lose a reader.
2. Use bullets
People don't read online copy like they do a book, they scan the page looking for things that catch their eye. Break some of your paragraphs up into bullet points to make them easy to read and understand.
3. Use sub-headings to break up your content
See how I've used a sub-heading for each of the tips I'm sharing here in this article? It makes it easier for you to see each of the tips and to know which section relates to that tip. Doing the same with your articles will make them more readable.
4. Make sure your title grabs the readers attention
Your article title is the hook of your content. Whether it appears in an article directory or in a search engine listing people will be scanning a whole list of articles so you need to make sure that your title jumps off the screen and grabs their attention.
Different audiences react to different title styles so you should start by seeing what other writers do. Then just have some fun and test out different article title styles to see what works best for your readers. Try long and short, to the point and mysterious and maybe even downright shocking.
5. Use real life examples
You can really liven up your article content by using real life examples and case studies. This not only shows your reader that you are credible and know what you are talking to them about, but will also make your articles more interesting to read. Don't forget, the secret of success is to encourage your readers to stick around long enough to reach your bio box at the bottom of the article and to click on the link to visit your own website.
6. Write as if you were writing to a friend
Articles don't need to be formal and stuffy. Write your content as if you were writing a letter to a friend. Keeping your style light and conversational will keep the reader engaged and make your article much more interesting.
