Robert Pepoa
If you are a coin and stamp collector, how do you categorize yourself?
Did the question ever get in your thought? I think most of us collectors never asked ourselves that kind of question but just for the fun of it here are just some guides I think might interest you.
Actually there are multiple ways to collect coins and stamps as well as the specialties of collectors or the types of collections they want to be better than anything else. Here is how you categorize the types of collectors applied not only to these kinds of hobbies but to others as well.
The most common ones are the casual collectors: The First Level
You can determine if you are one of the casual collectors if….
- You are collecting coins and stamps randomly just for the fun of it - Your collections consist of that are already obsolete, those that have been changed and modified usually are used my magicians; those that are made commemorative coins, those with errors, or those that are out of circulation. - You collect no matter you age is and no matter where you are - You do not pay much money for the purchase and preservations of your collections - You do not pay much attention to details - Your collection is made more interesting because of the coins given to you as gifts
The collectors which belong to the curious class: The Second Level
You belong to this class of collectors if….
- You are inclined to expand your knowledge and awareness of the items and might soon think of becoming an advanced collector as you start establishing your contacts with many serious collectors who inspire you in the hobby - You are more interested in coin and stamp collecting than simply collecting them because you received them as gifts - You don't mind buying, especially if they are inexpensive - You are more interested in browsing shops and could spend more time than a casual collector - You spend more time surfing the web looking at items sold on eBay or other coin sites - You collect coins and stamps without a clear-cut objective
The most serious of all collectors, the advanced collector: Third Level - Extreme Collecting
You can categorize yourself as an advanced collector if...
- You are either a "generalist" (a collector who wants to obtain a wide variety of coins) if you can to obtain an amazing collection in your available resource; a "completist" (a collector who wants to collect a complete set of a specific type) - As a "completist", you most prefer collecting collect items from certain historic period, nation or you prefer collecting tokens or coins with errors - You research more than anything else on your hobby and you joined clubs for the sake of collecting knowledge - You buy item if you really need them to fill out in your collections - You collect with a clear cut objective - You are expert on your hobby and you rely on your own when it comes to grading and valuing your items
No matter what class of coin and stamp collectors you belong to or what you want to be, it is your own choice. The most important is that you find the hobby rewarding and it makes you feel good collecting what you collect. You collect because the hobby is not popular; you collect because you love it.
