Having Trouble Killing Pests - Try Preventative Measures

Alan Carson

The pests that torture the homemakers of today are some of the most hated, unwanted visitors, and the homemaker wants to eradicate them as quickly as possible. Reports from the National Pest Control Association, an association of pest control companies that is not set up for profit, an estimated $4.5 billion of damage is caused by pests each year. There are lots of pests that can have adverse effects on your family's long term health as well.

Pests are not restricted to only messy dirty houses, even the best kept house will at one time have a problem with unwanted guests. These pests don't necessarily have a sense of region or season, either. Because of technological advances, these pests can thrive and reproduce in your house at any time of the year. Some pests, such as rodents, are affected by seasonal change and you will find an increase during the cold months as they seek warmth inside your home. There are many different ways that roaches may get into your home initially, like in bags.

Some insects will simply grab onto your clothes or shoes and get in that way. Pest control is doubtless a year long problem. In order to completely eradicate the pests, you are going to have to use methods other than the simple things you find at your supermarket. The unhelpful fact is pests live off exactly those things you yourself require to survive, warmth, food and water.

There is no way to cut off those elements that they need to live because you yourself need them, so instead you need to take some preventative steps. A good step to take is to make sure that suspected hiding and breeding places are always kept clean, places like crevices, vents, and nooks. Get all loose trash and debris from the home, and empty your garbage at least daily.

Make sure there are no cracks in your walls that pests can get through, and put up some screens for your doors and windows. Do not buy large amounts of food that you do not plan on eating for some time, and make sure any open packages are locked up tight in containers. Any time you have a spill, either food or drink, clean it up thoroughly. You should look particularly at produce packages.

When you use pesticides always follow the instructions and keep in mind these are potentially dangerous chemicals you are dealing with. Only use the chemical where you are supposed to, and make sure that there are EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) registration numbers clearly visible. If used according to the package instructions, you should be able to use these products without harming yourself or the environment. Look over the label and instructions for usage prior to purchasing any pesticide. Only use pesticides for those pests they were created to kill.

Put any leftover pesticide in a place out of the reach of kids. When you have finished using them store them as instructed and dispose of them as told. #11 - And most important, if you need a professional to do the job, be sure to hire an expert. Pest control experts are specially educated in eliminating your pest issues in a safe manner without causing damage to your house or yard. So, they are going to be your best resource. There has also been a recently published pamphlet called "The Ten Most Unwanted Common Household Pests and What To Do About Them" which you may find helpful. You can find it at a low price that covers shipping and handling costs.
