Stretch Mark Solutions You Can Try At Home

Jen Hopkins

Scars that you would definitely not like to see on your skin are stretch marks. These are scars that look like thin, parallel lines that run across your skin. Fresh marks will have a reddish or violet color but once it heals, it will turn brown that is usually a different shade than that of your normal skin.

Stretch marks are formed when the skin is made to stretch well beyond its limit due. This is usually caused by a rapid increase in the size of the body due to various reasons. When this happens, the first layer to tear in the skin is the dermis. This causes small blood vessels to rupture and release blood which we see as the red-violet lines on the surface of the skin. this will eventually heal but will leave a visible scar behind.

You may wonder why these wounds leave a scar upon healing. Almost all unintentional wounds on the body will leave a scar as these wounds are often irregular edges which make it harder for the body to repair. Clean wounds such as surgical incisions on the other hand, are much easier to repair and will usually not leave a scar. Since tearing of the skin is irregular, this causes permanents scars to be seen on the skin.

Upon seeing the formation of these marks, some people will try to prevent scars from forming by massaging the areas of the skin that was affected. A lot of people believe that this will help in breaking down scar tissue so that it will not form visible scars upon healing.

In addition to massages, a lot of people also use creams to lighten the appearance of scars. Creams like cocoa butter are a popular choice for making scars and stretch marks look lighter. These may work by moisturizing the skin and stimulating better cell regeneration so that older tissues may be replaced by newer ones.

Other people also rely on vitamin supplements such as Vitamins A, C and E as these all have some beneficial effects to the skin. They may have antioxidant effects as well as skin regenerating factors which are important in the production of better looking skin. These vitamins may be applied topically or taken in a food supplements to help give the skin the nutrients that it needs.

Still, other more expensive procedures that you can try are laser treatments and microdermabrasion. These are more expensive ways to go about removing scars and stretch marks but they can completely eliminate any blemishes that are visible on the skin.

Stretch marks are really annoying as they are very visible scars especially if they form on areas that cannot be easily covered by clothes. There are some things that you can do to lighten their appearance and make them less visible. But if you really want to get rid of them, you may have to resort to the more expensive methods such as microdermabrasion and laser treatments.
