What is The Ideal Alignment and Occlusion?
Teeth form the most important part of any living being on earth. Be it human or animal’s teeth form the first step in the digestion of food. Many animals like dogs, cats and other carnivores use teeth to hunt, tear and protect themselves from their enemies. Human beings too are dependent on teeth for the first step of digestion. A nicely arranged set of teeth in the mouth of a human being will give it the best aesthetic look.
According to Shelby dental each tooth has an ideal position in the mouth and if this position is disturbed due to one or other reason it may disturb the whole set of teeth. If all teeth take their ideal position then only proper dental functions can be performed. Apart from taking proper positions on the places earmarked for each tooth it is of utmost importance that teeth mesh together properly in proper bite this is called occlusion. A proper occlusion can be defined as that position of teeth where the cusps of the upper teeth line up with the grooves of the teeth on the lower jaw and vice versa.
Shelby dental says, it is important to know that ideal alignment and occlusion has a direct relationship with the health and function of the teeth. If teeth are not arranged properly on the jaws food particles will get trapped between the grooves which will become a breeding ground for bacteria and the end result will be decay and loss of teeth.
If the occlusion is not proper, extra pressure maybe generated on the jaws and teeth may exert pressure on one another and in turn may get disarranged. Shelby dental offers many ways to correct these disarranged teeth.
Shelby dental suggests orthodontic treatment if the occlusion is not perfect or the teeth are not ideally arranged on the jaws. Treatment may vary from wearing a headgear or braces to surgery depending upon the severity and other factors like age and living conditions of the patient. Usually the alignment of teeth is disturbed in childhood by thumb sucking or excessive use of pacifiers. Genetic features also play an important role in deciding the appearance and arrangement of teeth on the jaws.
