PMP Exam Preparation: Hints for the Preparation of the PMP Exam

R. Camper Bull

PMP Exam Preparation From The PMP Master Class

Hello, my name is Camper Bull. I am the founder of the PMP Master Class. The author of Moving from Project Management to Project Leadership and I had the honor of being a content contributor for the PMBOK, the Project Management Body of Knowledge 4th edition.

I’d like to spend a little time talking to you about the PMP Exam preparation. We at the PMP Master Class take the exam preparation very seriously. The PMP exam is not easy. If you will prepare for it appropriately, the exam is relatively easy to pass. If you do not prepare for it well, it becomes difficult and demoralizing. The PMP exam is designed to be quite difficult. So what I’d like to do is give you a couple of quick hints on the preparation process, how to prepare for the exam, and what to look out for.

First and foremost in exam preparation is understand when you’re going to take the PMP exam. You have to fill out a great deal of application process before you can actually take the exams. So do that and know when the date is that you’re going to take the exam so you can prepare. You can work backwards.

We suggest at least 6 weeks before the exam that you start your preparation process. That’s an absolute minimum for preparation. We’d encourage you to do 12 weeks at least for preparation. Why? Because that gives you a chapter a week to prepare as opposed to 2 chapters a week. The more you compress it, the better you’re going to have a chance of not passing.

So in exam preparation, make sure you have a plan. Make sure you know what you’re going to be studying and how you’re going to be studying. When you’re preparing for the exam, just don’t study the information in the PMBOK. Also capture all the other information because the PMP exam is all about the width and breadth of the information. So preparation must also be all of the other information out in the project management arena. It’s a bit more daunting than most people think.

Don’t get me wrong. Reading the PMBOK is important. And part of your preparation process should be reading the PMBOK three to four times. People who don’t read the PMBOK are not prepared to take the exam. Study the PMBOK, create a plan, and make sure that you’re reading the appropriate information.

There are many preparation programs out there to help you pass the exam. But you need to make sure that the preparation programs are all about version 4 of the PMBOK. If they’re not version 4, you’re wasting your time. So make sure when you’re doing exam preparation, focus on the materials that are version 4 compliant. Each one of these should be clearly defined.

You also need to understand how you learn best. When you’ve created that plan in creating that preparation for the exam, understand how you learn best. Do you learn best in a group? Do you learn best getting a lecture and being able to review it? Some people work best in a group and a lot of people in the exam preparation process create a mastermind group - a group of people that get together on a regular basis to review the PMP process, understand how they’re preparing, and work off each other. This is an excellent way of doing exam preparation. You don’t necessarily have to sit in a classroom and waste several days. You can go online, get the lectures, and review the lectures on a regular basis.

That is why the PMP Master Class has created this online tutorial. What we’ve done to help you prepare for your PMP exam is create 3 free videos for you.

The first free video is all about the rumors and myths about the PMP exam. In preparing for the exam, you’re going to run across a lot of information. The first free video is designed to clearly defined and help you understand how you prepare for the exam.

The second free video is a tool I used when I was preparing for the exam that gave me a greater surety. So when I took the exam, I was prepared but I also knew how well I would do. It gave me such assurance that I was able to do the exam in less than half the time. You prepare to take your 4-hour exam and it only took me 2 hours to do it. I give you that in the second video.

The third video and probably the most important for you as an individual who is going to try and pass the PMP exam is how you’re going to prepare. We learn differently than we did in high school or when we did in college. So preparation has to be different, make sense? This video talks about how you prepare in any sort of situation in any learning environment as an adult differently than how you prepare as a high school student or how you prepare to take the exam as a college student. All 3 videos are available to you at no cost .

The advantage for you is when you’re preparing for this to be forewarned and have a plan. So what we’re also going to do is give you 25 secrets to passing the PMP exam. These are documents that we’ve prepared over the last 7 years – tips and tricks we’ve learned in passing the exam. We’re also going to give you 20 questions. So while you’re preparing for the exam, you can use these 20 questions plus the tool and video, too, to actually understand where you’re doing well, what you’re doing poorly, and where you need to study.

We’re also going to give you the reviews of all the exam preparation books out in the market. These are exceptionally useful books if you know which ones to buy. They are expensive and I give you a review of all the books so that you can prepare appropriately for the exam.

My name is Camper Bull. I am the founder of the PMP Master Class. I want to wish you great luck in preparing to pass the PMP exam. Your exam preparation will be worthwhile, trust me, in a long while. Thank you for listening and I look forward to seeing you some other time.
