Christian History 25 Gospel of James 1

Steven S. Sadleir

History of Christianity H25 - The Gospel of James (From the YouTube Mini Series)

Hi I'm Steven Sadleir and we’ve been talking about the Lost Teachings of Jesus Christ, all the gnostic gospels that Nag Hammadi Library and all the other codices or papyrus bound books that dates the first and second centuries. We’ve gone over Thomas, about the Gospel of Thomas, the Book of Thomas and talked about the Saint Thomas Christians of India.

And now, I’d like segue into another Gospel. The Gospel of James, James the brother of Jesus Christ, we know he was appointed the Bishop or the leader of the church in Jerusalem. And the church fathers of the first and second centuries and into the third talked about him. In 150 A.D or the mid second century, some of the church fathers are talking and referring to the Gospel of James. And so they knew it existed all the way back to the first century. They talked about a copy of it and its existence in the mid second century. And we have a pretty detailed text of it from the Nag Hammadi Library, yet not many people know about it. Yet, this is what the Semitic Christians, the original Jewish Christians from Israel and Egypt were learning and teaching back then. They were not studying Paul's work, they were studying James.

Most Churches today still don't want you to read this, or learn its contents. But why? Because what Jesus taught, and what most of what the original Apostles taught, is (apparently) different than what the Church has been teaching. But isn't it better to know the truth? If Christ's closest disciples studied these works, why shouldn't we. If there is more for us to learn, is it not incumbent upon us to study it? Don't let others tell you what to think, including me, question and think for yourself. Do the research. Read, study, contemplate and pray. Everything you thought you knew is changing.
